Student Program
At Polley Faith, students learn how to be good litigators from day one.
We are committed to developing our students into quality advocates capable of handling any type of case. Students are exposed to a wide variety of practice areas, including commercial litigation, securities regulation, administrative law, and professional discipline. From their first day in the firm, students get the opportunity to assist in tasks ranging from research, to drafting key documents such as facta and pleadings, to answering client emails, to assisting during key steps in the litigation process such as discoveries, mediation, and trial itself. Students get on their feet quickly and then start running.
Students have a wide safety net. No one knows everything on their first try, so Polley Faith sees all student work as a learning opportunity. We provide additional training sessions upon student request – whether those requests concern IT tools or substantive areas of law.
STUDENT PROGRAM COMMITTEE
Our goal is to create litigation stars who are skilled, confident, and excited about their future legal careers.
From on-campus interviews, all the way to the completion of articles, our student committee is here to support our students through the entire process. Our student program begins with formal orientation sessions that are responsive to student feedback and are designed to ensure the students absorb information as it becomes relevant.
Our committee pairs every summer student with a mentor on day one. These mentors are associate members of our firm, passionate to see our students thrive throughout their time at the firm. Junior mentors act as personal confidantes who will listen, support, and guide their student mentees. Our committee also pairs each articling student with an associate mentor as well as a senior lawyer who will serve as their principal during the articling term.
Polley Faith organizes both formal and informal social events throughout the summer and articling terms to help build internal connections, be it a coffee break, going to lunch, or attending firm-wide events. These invitations continue when students return to school or leave to clerk as we want our students to continue to feel like part of the team.
Our committee meets regularly with the students to ensure their goals and needs are being met. It is important to us that our students feel supported every step of the way, build strong connections with our team, and a gain passion for our work and our clients.

Polley Faith values continuous learning and growing. That means taking specific measures to ensure that our workplace only becomes more inclusive and equitable. Our approach to diversity and inclusion is defined by a commitment to do better. We recognize that we need to do more work to build an equitable and inclusive hiring process and workplace; we are proud to be moving in that direction with concrete action, including changing our approach to On-Campus Interviews to reduce unconscious bias in hiring and bolstering supports for students and lawyers from equity-deserving groups. We continue to prioritise recruiting, supporting, and retaining diverse candidates.

WHO WANTS TO BE
A STAR LITIGATOR?
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORSHIP
Polley Faith knows that mentorship and supportive firm culture are essential to success. We have cultivated an environment where students can thrive within a collaborative team. Students work closely with each other and with every member of the firm.
At Polley Faith, there is a culture of mentorship. During the summer, students receive an associate mentor. Students who article at our firm will also be paired with a principal and associate mentor. Our students have regular check-ins with their mentors; the mentors are responsible for ensuring the students receive an appropriate range and variety of work. That said, every member of our team is a peer mentor students feel comfortable turning to for assistance. If we cannot fill a specific mentorship need, we are happy to help students make external connections.
Polley Faith’s objective is to ensure our students will have the tools they need to be star litigators.
